A RESILIENT ISLAND
On Wednesday, September 6, 2017, category 5 Hurricane IRMA hit the island of Saint-Barthélemy. This major catastrophe destroyed many homes, leaving families devastated, fauna and flora deeply wounded. Without a doubt, one of the most destructive hurricanes in decades! In the hours following IRMA, the Collectivity of Saint-Barthélemy set up an unprecedented plan to handle the first emergencies, clearing roads and infrastructures, but above all coordinating assistance for the most affected. Solidarity and mutual help were the key words in uniting all the inhabitants of the island with one single goal!
ONE SINGLE BANNER : SOLIDARITY
They numbered hundreds of people: individuals, companies and associations deciding to unite to allow the island to recover after the first hours of emergency. These teams came together supporting the overall effort to erase the visible traces of a natural disaster that the Caribbean still has difficulty forgetting. Being Saint-Barth is above all a state of mind, to always put the island’s protection first. Today, project leaders are coming together to support reconstruction efforts, assist victims of the disaster and, more generally, help nature take its course and restore the island’s original beauty.
